Darren C the creator of Ultraplay – the club; now smashes into 2012 as a red hot producer under his already established and well respected brand name – Ultraplay.
Ultraplay events have been teasing and pleasing East London’s trendy, international Brick Lane crowd, every month since 2005. The main attraction being a profound musical experience… like no other. Ultraplay emits a thunderous sound whilst enchanting and uniting it’s much loved following in celebration with the wildest and most entertaining of performances.

An Ultraplay crowd get lifted by it’s music up onto a euphoric high, to a point where people are dancing on the ceiling, forgetting who there are and where they came from. Living the moment with booming tribal chants and cheers of joy are the norm for an Ultraplay performance. Now Ultraplay is here with it’s own unique music. An infinite score of otherworldly sounds, produced from the very deepest and darkest part of London.

Darren C will be making a debut appearance at Vast on 18/02/12, then at Ultraplay on 26/02/12.

Ultraplay’s start to this year has been explosive! First there was the crazy NYD party, then last Sunday there was the incredible performance from Trumpet Man aka Gordon Edge, who literally ‘blew-the-roof’ – off the Cafe… Well, as if things couldn’t get any more intense, we have yet ANOTHER highly entertaining Ultraplay party for you this month… and yet we’re still only just recovering from the last one!

We’ve got not just one, but two ‘extra special’ guests, both with an extremely strong ‘electronic’ flavour in their sounds.

First up, is Berliner bad-boy – CJ Hartmann, an Ultraplay favourite. We’re extremely happy that CJ is flying over exclusively to grace the Ultraplay decks once again with his crazy mad-assed tunes. This is big news for CJ fans and Techno heads alike, as CJ’s previous slot at Ultraplay sadly had to be pulled last-minute due to a cancelled flight. As anyone who’s been lucky enough to catch one of his sets, CJ digs in the deepest, darkest places whilst mining for only the most underground of treasures that he can find, ready to deploy unexpectedly on the dance floor. If you haven’t yet experienced this ‘London-gone-all-Berlin’ cool cat… now’s your chance!

Our second spesh guest this month is super cool, globe trotting London/Tokyo DJ – Knock.
If you’ve been following the Ultraplay Podcast recently, then you will have heard Knock’s awesome, eclectic, disco-tech fueled mix. Knock, a true master of mixing quality tech house will all manner of electronic dance elements, absolutely kicked dance-floor ass in the wee early hours of ‘Lost/Holic‘ NYE warehouse party. Knock’s solid and skillful mixing, kept the the party alive and kicking right up until the end, which was around 10am. Not an easy thing to do, but one that Knock appeared to do with ease and with style!

Ultraplay resident Tech heads – Maker & Meyer , true Jedi’s of the East London ‘Sunday sound’, will be igniting this party at 2pm with their incredible set up of multiple decks, FX, controllers and digital wizardry. Definitely check them out if you haven’t already. Then Darren C will finally wind-up the proceedings to a massive high – that is of course, …until he finally presses the dreaded Ultraplay ‘Doomsday’ button!

This is going to be a very, very busy party… so get down early to ensure you don’t miss a beat!

CJ Hartmann
Chris Janisz aka C.J. Hartmann is a Berlin-based DJ and producer. Born in 1986 in Poland he started his adventure into electronic music at the age of 14. Fascinated and inspired by musicians like Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and Westbam he started gaining his musical knowledge collecting his favourite releases. And thus a journey began through different types of electronica: Trance, Breaks and Funky House, slowly developing his music preferences. Chris’s current sound can be described as Electronica/Techno, mostly influenced by artists like Stephan Bodzin, Oliver Huntemann and Aphex Twin. His DJ sets are very dark, deep and heavily laced with his influences. A presence of melodies is always incorporated into his sets, creating powerful and emotional highs and lows. His careful track selection always tells the crowd its own story, taking people on ‘a journey’ creating a fantastic and unusual atmosphere on the dance floor.Arriving in London at the age of 18, his musical taste changed after discovering an exciting new sound flooding out of London’s underground Techno scene and an instant love affair with clubbing began! Listening to plenty of DJs, in May 2006 he decided to learn how to use DJ equipment himself, so he could play his favourite music.C.J. so far performed in one of the most important clubs all over Europe including places like Razzmatazz (Barcelona), Op Art (Lisbon), Ministry Of Sound (London), Sugar Factory (Amsterdam) , Tresor (Berlin) and Cookies (Berlin) to name just a few, starting his residencies in clubs like The End (London), Aquarium (London), Cafe 1001 (London), Suicide Circus (Berlin) and Asphalt (Berlin). He was sharing the bill with stars like Miss Kittin, Stephan Bodzin, Ame, Ellen Alien, Marc Romboy, Phil Kieran, Marco Carola, Adam Beyer, System Of Survival, Simon Baker, Thomas Schumacher, Oliver Koletzki and many more! His tracks have been supported by artists like Extrawelt, Phonique, Florian Meindl, Alex Smoke and Redshape. Chris’s enthusiasm talent and energy behind the decks was an inspiration to many and his future started to look extremely positive. We can’t forget to mention such facts as his legendary 26hrs DJ set with Darren C at Ultraplay back in 2010, or 7 hours sets @ Lockemuller Open Air Festival 2009 and 2010 where his performance mesmorised thousands and is still remembered today! In late January, Hartmann’s first production this year ‘Tail On Fire’ was released on a Ministry Of Sound compilation called ‘Sound Of Berlin vol. 9′ amongst such artists as Paul Kalkbrenner, Soul Clap, Mark Henning and Oliver Koletzki, to name just a few. Upcoming releases involve collaborations with artists like Argy, Jerome Sydenham, GummiHz and Phonique. C.J. is now also a featured artist in Zweisam Records – a Berlin-based record label, with a recent collaboration with the fresh and new talent, Stephan Bobinger.

Hartmann recently took things to the next level. You will be able to see him performing using the iPad 2 – LIVE FX controller and ‘A MAGIC STICK’ – Doepfer R2M!

Gordon Edge has made us a sublime mix, (not Subliminal . As we mentioned previously, Gordon is well known for his sunny Balearic Tech House, but is not so well known for his darker sounds… After listening to this, perhaps he will be, as this is one of the best mixes we’ve heard for a while. It’s dark as hell, and is groovier and deeper than the Mariana Trench!

Gordon is currently on tour in Brazil, so we’re waiting for him to get back to the UK, so that we can ambush him for the track list ID. So check back on this post for updates if you want to know who the artists and labels are on this wicked mix…

You can catch Gordon Edge’s debut appearance of darkness at Ultraplay – this Sunday (29/01/12) at Cafe 1001. Details here.

The Ultraplay NYD 2012 Blast off, was one hell of an amazing entry into this new year…People are still talking about it!

That was arguably the best Ultraplay ever. However, for any of you who were unlucky enough to miss that legendary party, and for those of you who want another chance to let yourself go again – like that!! …we have booked an Ibiza legend for our next party. DJ, producer and musician – Gordon Edge, otherwise known on the White Isle as… Trumpet Man!

That’s right, globe trotting Gordon Edge (Subliminal Records) will be blowing away the cold with an awesome Trumpet infused live set this month at Ultraplay in Cafe 1001. Gordon, resident of Bora Bora, who also regularly plays at Space, Pacha, Amnesia and Privilege (to mention just but a few of his haunts) …is well known for his uplifting summery Tech House sounds. But what he’s not so well known for is his darker take on Tech House and Techno, which was the area he first started in many years ago back in Germany.

So, get ready for an Ultraplay with a twist. Get ready for Trumpet Man!

We just cannot wait for this one! It’s going to be really special!

Here’s Gordon’s latest mix on SoundCloud:

Gordon Edge. Producer. DJ. Trumpet Musician. (Biog)
Resident of Bora Bora, Ibiza, probably the most under-rated DJ/Producer of the last 15 years. Gordon Edge is a truly exceptional talent, combining the totally unique DJ experience of 3 deck mixing while adding his own personal “edge” playing Live Trumpet. Gordon offers a versatile style and sound that is as equally at home when played at the biggest clubs in the world, as it is at the most intimate private parties. Whether it’s a dark dingy underground club in deepest darkest Siberia, or dancing on the tables in the sunshine at Bora Bora, Ibiza, if you’re lucky enough to catch Gordon in action it will be always be an unforgettable experience that you will remember forever.

Gordons unique notoriety has kept him in continual high demand, as a DJ Gordon has appeared in practically every country throughout the world with 2008 being no exception. In this year alone he has rocked the crowds in Lithuania, Spain, Germany, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Dubai, Egypt, Austria, Switzerland plus grand tours of Russia, India and South America, including appearances at Pacha, Sirena & El Divino in Brazil. After the success of this years India tour Gordon was honoured to be asked to return to India for the Launch of GQ Magazine in Mumbai amongst a whole host of ‘A list’ celebrities from the world of Bollywood. Ibiza, is Gordons second and spiritual home, after arriving on the island in 1998 a 2 week holiday turned into a whole summer, and he fell in love with the island so much he bought a home there! He quickly became widely known as the DJ with the trumpet, and tagged the “Trumpet Man” alias. He went on to become a regular feature at all the major venues on the island, including Pacha, Space, Amnesia, Privilege & El Divino and was soon snapped up for a coveted residency for the infamous Bora Bora, where in season you can catch him playing his marathon 5-8 hour sets at the worlds most renowned beach venue. With such international demand it’s a wonder the Gordon ever gets time to come home, but not forgetting his roots, back on UK terra firma he is a regular feature for Gallery at Ministry of Sound. As a trumpet player he not only played for Sade on her world tour but also for Madonna at private parties she hosted in Miami & New York. Gordon has released over 170 12″ records under such names as DJ Edge, Trumpetman, Edge Test, Trumpet Thing, Digital Domain, Gordon Matthewman & Gordon Edge, many of these on his own labels EDGE Records, Rabbit City Records and XVX Records selling well over half million world wide.

Gordon’s tracks have also featured on countless compilations over the years, including Café Del Mar, Real Ibiza, Budda Bar and many Ministry of Sound compilations. Now hard at work in the studio again watch this space for the next exciting instalment from the legend that is Gordon Edge!”

It only occurred to me the other day that I’ve been DJ’ing for ten years. During that time I’ve gathered some incredible records, many of which I’ve played and pushed to help define the Ultraplay ‘sound’. I love the raw power of Techno, but what I love more than that, are those rare and magical compositions of music, that literally transport you off to another world…
I’ve accumulated quite a healthy stash of these sparsely hidden ‘gems’, so it was tough decision to choose just twelve that would make this enchanting winter mix.
To help really bring these tracks together into one mind-altering journey, I’ve sliced, spliced and spiced’ adding my own personal array of effects to accentuate the whole experience.
But FX aside, these are the songs that have really touched my heart and soul.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Respect to these artists.

They say “The Irish love to laugh & love to dance” & boy do I love to do both! Growing up in the countryside, Athlone, Co. Roscommon, the very centre of Ireland, I was big into Sport (Basketball, Football, Camogie) & Irish Dancing. You couldn’t get me off the dance floor at the local disco’s & later rock concerts! I was big into REM, RadioHead, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins & Alanis Morrisette.
I became a Fitness Instructor in 1994 and so was constantly moving to music! I taught on average 10 classes (Aerobics, Step, Body Sculpt, Spin etc) a week for 11 years! I always played the best tunes in my classes so I had all these mothers jumping around to pumping house & techno music! It wasvery funny, I secretly think they’re all big ravers! It wasn’t until I moved to London in 1999 that I discovered the club scene, when my sisters took me to some warehouse parties and then I thought “Wow, this is what I’ve been missing all my life!
I was hooked… on the music, the vibe, the atmosphere & just dancing all night long on the dance floor! Being a regular at the Pendragon Trance parties & Free Party Techno Scene! Which was great as I never really ever had much money. I really really really LOVE to dance, it’s so much fun & a great way to let your hair down! I get so much energy from music. I often thought about Dj’in so 3 years later, after returning from travelling in 2001, my Spanish boyfriend at the time Nacho & I kept our promise, saved up & bought our first set of decks. Two weeks later we threw our first house party & “SPIRITUALISED” was born… always noted for its wicked decoration & amazingly friendly/fun atmosphere with the best trance & techno in the main room & house music in the second room!
I’m very open minded when it comes to music, my style varies from Electronic to Funky Tech House, Electro to Pumping Techno.. I also like Trance, D’n'B, Rock, Indie, Pop, Chill Out… Basically I love anything good that makes me move!

Dj’s that have really inspired me are…

Mr.C – such a great guy & friend since meeting on the Joy of Decks TV Show in 2003. What a Dude!

Jeff Amadeus – incredible skillful Dj.

James Zabiela – he is light years ahead of other Djs.

Chris & Aaron Liberator & DAVE the Drummer – I probably would never have discovered Techno without them, big RESPECT!

And of course the man himself, my hero… Carl Cox, he just radiates good energy.

I’ve been really lucky and won quiet a few Dj Competitions…

In 2002 I won the Cyberdog Trance Dj Competition (I’d only been mixing 8 months!)

In 2004 I won Trevor Rockcliffe’s Stomp Techno Competition

The Ascension Awards National House Dj Competition where my prize was to play at the famous WMF Club, Berlin.

In 2003 I was chosen in the final 4 out of 300 for the 6 part ITV docu-series “THE JOY OF DECKS”.

The idea of the show was to turn 4 up & coming Dj’s into professional DJ’s. In the first show there was 8 Dj’s who played infront of the 4 mentors… Mr.C, Roni Size, Sister Bliss & Tom Middleton. Each Mentor chose one person as their apprentice & Sister Bliss from Faithless picked me! I got to play at Bora Bora in Ibiza, Turnmills in London, Shindig in New Castle & Nation in Liverpool. I made my first track in a studio, “Oiche Mhaith (Good Night)” … Irish Tribal House.
Got a Dj lesson from James Zabiela (no.13 Dj in the world, this guy is amazing!) Best of all I got emails from Misstress Barbara & the man himself Carl Cox giving me advice for the final which was held in Liverpool at Nation. I played & rocked 1,000 people! I achieved my goal of playing 3 decks, scratching, used samples on a Cdj & effects! Played my heart out & had a load of fun!! It was an amazing experience & achievement for me, as I’d only been Dj’in 2 years!!!Check out www.thejoyofdecks.tv
But my biggest achievement to date was been asked personally by my hero Carl Cox to warm up for him on tour in France in May 2005! I got to play to crowds of up to 4,000 people at the amazing “Carl Cox & Friends” parties in Paris & Strasbourg. Rocked the crowd in between Sasha & Carl Cox at the “Inox3 Electronic Music Festival” in Toulouse and warmed up for Carl at the famous VIP room at the Cannes Film Festival. We started the tour in my home country Ireland, at the Redbox, Dublin on 1 st May followed by 6 gigs all over France. This was a truly amazing experience & I learned so much from Carl, he is what every Dj should be! Check out www.carlcox.com

I was also invited to played after the no.1 Dj in the world at the time “Tiesto” at the “Autumn Electronic Festival” in Toulouse in September 2005. So far I’ve rocked crowds in Germany, Ibiza and headlined gigs in Japan, Brazil, UK, South of France, Poland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Italy, Tunisia, Algeria & Morocco. In 2005 I got my first overseas residency in Tunisia plus completed a 3 week tour of Brazil in April 2006! I’m also the first female Dj to ever play in Algeria!

So where to next??… I’m really excited about the future, there’s so much I want to continue learning. I’ve already completed a few short music production courses. I want keep working on trying to keep my sets as interesting & creative as possible. I want to continue to play all over the world! For me a Dj should be an entertainer, letting their personalities come through their music & having only one thing in mind & that is to rock the crowd! Making people dance & have a lot of fun!
The best advice given to me is when you Dj just play your best kick ass tunes and have a lot of fun, because when you have fun the people have fun with you!! Yep, the future looks bright!
Clodagh has played along side… Carl Cox, Tiesto, Sasha, Mr.C, Sister Bliss, Roni Size, Tom Middleton, Hernan Cantanno, Trevor Rockcliffe, Dj Misjah, Ignition Technician, Misstress Barbara, Chris & Aaron Liberator, DAVE the Drummer, Luke Slater, Eddie Halliwell, Pet Duo, Joris Voorn, Stacey Pullen, Anderson Noise, Erol Alkan, Headman, Audio Bullys, Tall Paul, Inigo Kennedy, Christian Smith, Ade Fenton, Christian Fischer, Stanton Warriors & Express 2.

“She’s got Carl Cox potential”… Mr. C

“A wicked Dj!” … Roy the Roach (Trust the Dj)

“Best warm up Dj we’ve had at STOMP!”… Trevor Rockcliffe

“Clodagh is the definition of party animal when she gets behind the decks”… Sister Bliss

Lyn Saine is Ultraplay’s newest rockin’ resident. London based Lyn Saine, originally from Poland has been gracing the Ultraplay decks at the Cafe 1001 exclusively for Ultraplay since October 2009.
A relative new comer to DJ’ing & East London’s clubbing scene, this extremely talented young DJ has been wow-ing the crowds down at Ultraplay each month with her big smiles and wild style.
Lyn Saine is part of a new breed of DJ who plays and expresses a very modern and forward thinking take on Techno. She is currently busy producing and with a view to releasing early next year (2012). In the meantime, Lyn Saine is djing in and around the London DJ circuit. She is a true entertainer and clubbing crowd pleaser. Lyn Saine is definitely one to watch out for this year, and next…
